Skull Preparation

Remove the head with a few inches of the neck still attached. Freeze the specimen. Before shipping, wrap the specimen in multiple layers of newspaper and double bag in heavy plastic. Ship specimen in appropriate packaging and the proper sized box/container (i.e., styrofoam/store bought plastic – don’t forget to clearly mark it with your name somewhere). We will reship the finished product in your original container if one is provided.

Please call (916.952.1537) or e-mail for shipping address and to let us know when your skull has been shipped.

The package should weigh no more than 70 pounds. We prefer to use FedEx.  When shipping FedEx air, please ship on a Monday to ensure arrival by Friday. If you choose to ship FedEx ground, do so only on a Monday. Ground parcels shipped on days other than a Monday may result in sitting over a weekend, and may spoil, and could be thrown away by the shipping company. U.S.P.S can also be used, but please use their delivery confirmation option and priority delivery.  If using U.S.P.S., please ship on a Monday as well.

Mark all packages "Taxidermy Items" (Federal Law Requirement).

Our Packing List must accompany your shipment. This will ensure no items are overlooked and discarded. Please place the packing list in a zip-lock bag along with payment/deposit. Also, if there are tags associated with the animal, please include the tag as well as your hunting license number.

Once we receive your skull, you will be notified via email or telephone to let you know it has arrived.

All of the above procedures are very important. Poorly packaged specimens pose many problems and can lead to your package being discarded or damaged by the shipping company. Sacramento Skull Works accepts no responsibility for specimens that arrive damaged. With proper packing and shipping, you can avoid problems in transit and ensure your trophy arrives in good condition.
